Congratulations to all involved in the launch of HURT’s (Have Your Tomorrows) new Re-engage with Age project – funded through our Reaching Out: Connecting Older People programme.

This vital project aims to help older people in the north west of Northern Ireland who are living with the risk of, or have acquired addiction issues associated with alcohol and drug misuse, including over the counter medication.

The launch took place at the An Culturlann Centre in Derry/Londonderry, last Thursday, 13 September, and was attended by over 50 people, young and old, and from many different walks of life.

Dessie Kyle, HURT Centre Manager, started off proceedings by providing a concise overview of the project and how it will change older people’s lives.

Brenda Stevenson, on behalf of the Mayor’s office, and Paul Cavanagh, Big Lottery Fund NI committee member, congratulated HURT on the funding, highlighting the importance of the project in reaching those who are most isolated.

A heartfelt presentation was also provided by a previous HURT client, who explained the difference HURT’s treatment and counselling services had made to her family’s lives.
